In 2018, 35 years have passed since the release of this genius album
Melissa - the first studio album of the Danish heavy metal group Mercyful Fate. Released by Roadrunner on October 30, 1983. The album was created in thirteen days, beginning on July 18, 1983 in the Copenhagen studio Easy Sound Recording, under the supervision of the producer Henrik Lund.
The album version from 1997 is remastered. The title track contains different vocal parts than originally and has been mixed up. Also the song Black Funeral has a different mix, which can be heard especially at the beginning and end of the song. All these differences, between the first pressing and the remaster, are audible when listening in the headphones. The difference is also in the appearance of the cover. Originally, i.e. in the vinyl version and in the compact edition eg Caroline / Megaforce, it had a greenish background, on which you can see the skull of the title "Melissa". Later, however, the background is unified and the whole is kept in red (not applicable to the 25th Anniversary CD). "Melissa" and the next Mercyful Fate studio album "Do not Break The Oath" became one of the most important heavy metal albums of the eighties of the twentieth century. Many artists admit that they were an inspiration for them and the emergence of a later trend in Black Metal.
